Location & Directions by Mapquest

San Damiano is less than a three hour drive southeast of Saint Louis, Missouri and an hour north of Paducah, Kentucky.

Specifically, we are located 20 miles south of Harrisburg, IL or 10 miles east of Golconda, IL and 2 miles south of the intersection of IL routes 146 & 34. Large highway signs have been erected on at this junction. An all weather road leads to the Shrine entrance where you will find a large entrance monument.

If you've never been to San Damiano Retreat before, we can offer assistance using Mapquest. But, before you get their route suggestion, we ask you read the disclaimer first. Keep in mind Mapquest prefers interstate routes over other routes, which can route you away from a shorter and more scenic route to San Damiano Retreat. The routes suggested by Mapquest are good, but not foolproof. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

While San Damiano Retreat has a rural route Golconda, IL mailing address, the closest town site to our actual location is Shetlerville, IL. Hence, the Mapquest directions are to Shetlerville, IL

Routing Disclaimer -- Please Read This First!
We'll give your turn-by-turn directions in a moment. But since this is your first route, we'd like you to read the following. When you're done, click on the ``ACKNOWLEDGE'' button at the bottom of this box, and we won't bother you with this message again.

Our goal is to give accurate, easy to follow "door-to-door" directions from anywhere in the United States. Although much of our road information is extremely accurate, some is not.

For example, guests coming from the east on I-64 and I-70 frequently use scenic route Illinois Route 1, sometimes in combination with the Shawneetown bridge or the Cave-in-Rock Ferry.

Other guests coming from the St. Louis area or coming from central Illinois frequently travel to San Damiano Retreat via I-57 and Illinois route 34 from Benton.

The good news is that our routes can be very good. At times, we've found routes that are better than ones frequent travelers have used for years. The bad news is that sometimes our routes can be, well, creative. For example, a route might tell you to get off an interstate highway, take a local road and then get back on the same interstate. We ask that you be patient with any errors you may find. Our routing will continually improve as the quality of our data improves and as we invent better routing algorithms.

And finally, a message from our lawyers:

Use these directions at your own risk. San Damiano Retreat and Catholic Shrine Pilgrimage does not guarantee their accuracy or drivability. San Damiano Retreat and Catholic Shrine Pilgrimage will not be responsible for any damages or losses which result from using these directions. Obey all traffic regulations.
